Random Damage - Human Flytrap
With former members form Annihilator and Doomsayer, Random Damage is driving up expectations. I recently reviewed the solo EP of guitarist Dean Boland, which left me with no expectations at all!! Human Flytrap ends up somewhere in the middle of this all...It's not bad, it's not really good...It's alright. The album starts of with some good guitar riffs with a lot of good harmonics. On his solo EP, Dean Boland is bit too easy and mellow for me. Appearantly he gets rid of his aggression in his regular band! I hope he sticks to the latter, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with the attack in his shredding here! The third song on the album is called "Spineless" and that's exactly the word for this album...The attack is good, the vibe's alright, it's just not that original. There is not a whole lot of things on this disc, that hasn't been done before.
All in all it's not a bad album. I'd file it under Birthday Background Music. It won't get boring, it'll keep things going, but it will definitely not raise any eyebrows, and to me that's a missed opportunity.
