Jaya The Cat - More Late Night Transmissions With...
Originating from Boston, but operating from Amsterdam. Jaya The Cat, the band with frontman Geoffrey Geoff Lagadec is back with a sequel for their 2002 release First Beer Of A New Day. As usual with these guys you can expect a mixture of reggae, punk rock and ska. The punk rock on More Late Night Transmissions With is especially in the beginning of the record a bit moved to the background though. This record is more reggae orientated than the previous ones.
I have seen Jaya The Cat many times live. Jaya The Cat is a fine festival band, just as Dropkick Murphys for example. It doesnt matter where they play; it is always a nice party. The only negative thing about their music is that it normally bores me after half an hour. When there is alcohol involved I mostly can party on it for about their whole show, but when Im at home and Im sober a whole record of Jaya The Cat is just too much.
With More Late Night Transmissions With this is a bit different. During the first time I heard this record I was especially surprised by the voice of Geoff. His voice sounds surprisingly good! Not all the songs on this record are new for people who have seen them live already, because they have played songs like Blur live already. This doesnt mean that there is nothing new to discover on this album. Songs like Chemical Salvation and Government Center are really worth the time to listen to.
For me this is the first release of Jaya The Cat which can convince me from start to finish. I prefer live shows from this band, but hey you cant be drunk all the time, right?!
