Facebreaker, what a nice name for a band. This ugly (not my word, theirs!) Swedish five-piece includes Roberth Karlsson (Edge Of Sanity, Incapacity fame) on vocals among some other experienced guys, who joined forces in 1999 when they found out that they all had a similar taste and wanted to start a death metal band.

Now everybody can guess how this band will sound. Swedish men playing death metal, that’d be Swedish death metal! From track one on, I’ve got the feeling that I’m listening to a new Dismember or Grave record, yet a good one. Dead, Rotten And Hungry is the exact reflection of this regions specific sound. The production is excellent while the “groove-rate” of the record is still high, for which the props can go out to Jonas Kjellgren and his Black Lounge Studios (Carnal Forge, Scar Symmetry).

The whole album ensures a stable high quality of mid- till high-tempo old school death. Some songs are more thrash-driven and therefore a bit faster, although the down-tuned guitars and Karlsson’s formidable low vocal style sometimes slows the music down a bit too. Dead, Rotten And Hungry does not contain any intermezzos as of a result that the tracks fit perfectly into each other. Maybe a bit too much, ‘cause like I said; the whole record is of the same level and it does not feature any outstanding tracks, which could be the reason that this is a perfect background CD.

As said, nothing original here, just excellent old school stuff for fans of the earlier mentioned Swedish bands, as well as Bolt Thrower and the likes.
