Ljungblut - Capitals
Ljungblut is the alter ego of Kim Ljung, a Norwegian musician that is the former bassplayer of Seigmen and currently bassplayer of Zeromancer. With Ljungblut he’s trying to express a more acoustic and melancholic side of his personality. So far a brief description of Ljungblut. Capitals is the successor of The Other Side Of All Things that was released in 2005. Musically Ljungblut is a mixture of ambient, electronic and slightly industrial with a great touch of melancholic.

After the first song ‘The Emblem’ it’s pretty clear for me that this album is not full of sweet lovesongs and tender music. With lyrics that handle mostly about people that are torn apart, depressions and more of those hard times in life. During these first couple of songs there’s a world opening up for me and the longer and more often I listen to this album the more I’m starting to like it.

During ‘FacadesEva Weel Skram, who participated in the Norwegian version of idols, is singing along. And this turns out really good. Not only Eva has a great voice that matches the sound of Ljungblut but she also adds something extra to the song. With ‘Touching The Flame’, which is a bit more up tempo and even has a sort of industrial touch in it, we are halfway on the album. Especially the chorus gives this song an extra boost.

After this, it’s on with more dark, melancholic and peaceful music. Just like the beginning of the album. The only disadvantage I notice every time I listen to the album is that the second part of the album, it doesn’t really affect me. Or even better said; I get bored very easily. In the end Capitals is a dark melancholic album that has a very powerful start and is probably very suitable for the long Saturday nights when you’ve just broken up with your partner.
