When I got the CD This Machine Runs On Empty from Bloodjinn I didn’t know these American metallers. A quick peek at their MySpace told me that they are “the new stars of American metal” and that they make their European debut with This Machine Runs On Empty. Though I had never heard of these guys before, the band already exists for about 9 years now. After releasing different albums on different labels with different band members they now found a steady line-up and are trying to conquer Europe with their first Listenable Records release.
The music on this disc is aggressive, has a lot of break-downs in it and sounds very powerful. Nothing really spectacular of you look at other NWOAHM bands, but Bloodjinn just got something which makes it worth listening. The only negative thing is the diversity of the vocals, ‘cause there isn’t. Joel has a great screaming style, but he uses his voice on all songs practically the same. The other band members play some tight heavy music and you can go completely insane on their music if you don’t think too much about the cliché parts of it.
Although everything has been done a million times already, Bloodjinn keeps my full attention during the whole record. I really like it, but some more diversity on their next effort is a must though!
