Highgate - Untitled
Hailing from the US, Highgate release upon the earth a black-doom record featuring only one song, which is untitled and lasts for 54 minutes. Sounds interesting…
And it is, on a good share of the disc. The music can be compared to that of a black metal version of Sleep. Must be some kind of link to their record Dopesmoker which is also just one song of over an hour. The scratched production combined with the slow riffing are a pleasure to my ears, especially when smoking a bud or two. But unfortunately, not all is well in this track.
I’m not completely happy with some of the vocals, especially the dirty high screams start to annoy me from time to time. And overall I don’t really get the feeling I’m listening to one gargantuan devastating song, but more a collage of several songs which could have been executed better. In the end Highgate takes a good shot at underground-stardom, but not good enough, alas.
