Downstairs - Oh Father
Pretty cool ass artwork and a genre titled 'experimental punk'. This caught my attention as soon as it dropped in my mailbox. Did I find a new, fantastic experimental band with a future brighter than my own? Was one of the last undiscovered great bands about to be unveiled to me? Was sliced bread about to be passed on the ladder of great discoveries?

Well...No, but it's a pretty good album anyway. Music that is hard to label and is 'experimental ' can either be fantastic like TOOL and Mars Volta". It can go all right like Obskuria, or gets a bit messy like Trip Fontaine. First off; it's not messy. Second; it's not fantastic either. So I guess it's all right then? Well...It's better than all right, hence the 84 percentile. However, albums should be at least 40 minutes, so no 88.

Now for the music. Guitars are all right, drums are OK, organs are pretty cool and the vocals are very Hell Is for Heroes. Another band that comes to mind is late nineties experimental punkers At the Drive Inn. However, especially the vocals on Oh Father don't make the level of At the Drive Inn. Also more punkbands like The Hives come to mind on songs such as 'Pale Cannibals'. All in all this is good album and a band that has definite potential. At The Drive Inn ended up in one of the best bands on the planet, so who knows?
