Young Hollywood - Shotgun
It’s not very easy when a band is called Young Hollywood and you want to gain some extra information about this band on the internet. So it took a while before I discovered that this band hails from Bristol, UK and did some touring in the past with The Blackout, Kill The Arcade and Second Monday. Well, to be honest none of these bands does ring a bell including Young Hollywood itself.
The four track EP that’s called Shotgun was released last February but on their MySpace I noticed they had also a demo that was called likewise and was released a year ago. My guess is they just got signed and the record company released their demo again just to get some music out on the market.
The first thing that crossed my mind when I listened to this EP was quite simple. I’ve heard this a dozen times before but, brave as I am, I kept on listening. After several minutes one name kept circling around my head; Snapcase. That was the first link I made and in the end probably the only one. It was the rawness of the tracks that convinced me of this comparison. A quick description would be post-hardcore with a great edge.
The only thing I don’t like about this comparison is the fact that Snapcase is much better. It’s like Young Hollywood isn’t even in the same league. So all combined together you have a band that is eager to tour a lot with an EP that was their demo. A demo that is filled with raw and edgy tracks but probably will sound very familiar because it’s been done a thousand times before.
