One On One - Take Them On
Influenced by bands such as Pantera, Slayer and Down, one would expect a great dose of quality metal from One On One, a Delft-based groove/thrash metal band. Now, Delft (situated in the Netherlands) is not necessarily known for its metalscene and therefore this band can be seen as quite a surprise.

It’s obvious that this band doesn’t play the mainstream stuff. I mean, it’ll all sounds quite familiar to you but still kind of original. The music grooves like hell and the overall mix has quite some quality! I mean, for such a new and unknown band, One On One did a great job on this record.

There’s room for some nice guitar solos and the vocals absolutely sound convincing to me. They’re a little high, think heavy metal style, yet they have a great raw edge to them. So for that matter, I definitely gotta give ex-vocalist Lenno Visser my compliments. Though the songs sound convincing, I would have liked to hear a little more diversity between them. I mean, when you play this live without a perfect sound, the songs might become a little too much alike.

As you just read, Lenno Visser is no longer in the band. And as much as I was surprised by this band, the vocals definitely contributed to that fact. I therefore wonder whether One On One can pull it off on their next effort as well with new band member Alex Wijnhorst. Hopefully for them he’s as convincing – or even better – as Visser, or else this band will probably fail miserably after a good start. The pressure is on Wijnhorst, ‘cause musically this band is more than alright!
