Southern Drunkstruction - Southern Drunkstruction
Never judge a book by its cover. That is what they taught me and that rule almost always applies. Not so in the case of the Southern Drunkstruction. When you have a bottle of beer on your cover and a drawing of a skull decorated with parts of the confederate flag, you can only guess what the music sounds like. Definitely not like Queensrÿche. Like Black Label Society perhaps? Of course, it goes without listening.
These Italians went by the name Southern Brewtality during the first two years of their existence. They had to change the name upon discovery that another band with the same name already existed. They kept the southern into the name to keep the connection with that music intact. They do sound a lot like Zakk Wylde’s outfit, including the trademark squeals on the guitar. The 5 track self produced demo has a great sound that is an epitome to the sound of Black Label Society. The only difference being the death metal-like vocals and the last track ‘Southern Drinkstruction’ is very reminiscent of Black Sabbath. A good demo, but I can't say that there are real memorable songs on it.
