Sixx: A.M. - The Heroin Diaries
I was looking for a release date of this album on the internet and found out that this album was already released in the States in 2007! Quite a delay I must say, especially when the frontman of this band is no other than Nicky Sixx. I am not really a Mötley Crüe fan, but after listening to some songs on an internet radio, I was determined that I had to get my hands on this one. Sometimes life can treat you well as I was pleasantly surprised that I found this album in the long list of albums that had to be reviewed.

Sixx: A.M. is a project from Nicky Sixx. The project started with a book and this album is the soundtrack accompanying that book. The listener can expect rock music of the finest quality. I find that the music can be compared to a mix of the latter Silverchair albums (especially Diorama because of the sometimes bombastic and theatrical structure and atmosphere of the songs) combined with more straightforward rock music, where the name Tribes of March (in my opinion a very underrated rockband from Canada) popped up in my head frequently.

I could keep it very simple for myself and finish this review with: “Just buy this one”, because I’m very impressed with the songs that they serve us. There are a lot of quality tunes on this album. I especially enjoyed the songs ‘Life Is Beautiful’ (excellent chorus which sticks like peanut butter on the brain), ‘Heart Failure’ and ‘Courtesy Call’. But this is just a small grasp of well-written songs. Only ‘Accidents Can Happen’ is a bit boring with a very boring chorus and just mediocre riffs.

There’s not one element of this album that stands out, but it’s more the album as a whole that just clicks. I just have a weak spot for rock albums with powerful sing-a-long songs and Sixx: A.M. made some memorable ones on this disc….For me a strong candidate for album of the year!
