Faith - Blessed?
Faith is a Karlshamn, southern Sweden based doom metal band, which was probably the first of its country, but by far not the most profitable. They started back in ’84 and with Blessed? they have just released their third full length album. The basis of their music can be considered as heavy, gloomy doom with folk influences, but they also are open-minded towards symphonic and progressive elements.
With the release of Blessed?, Faith will truly get some more followers. Their traditional doom is great for the old-school fans, but on the other hand they aren’t afraid of mixing some modern elements into their sound. The folk influences for example are perfectly integrated within their music and therefore the guest musicians deserve much respect. The thing that prevents the record to be a truly memorable one is the voice of Christer Nilsson. After a couple of songs the vocals become a bit annoying, because he uses his voice exactly the same way on almost all the tracks.
All in all this is a decent record for the doom fans amongst you guys. No “same shit, different day”-crap, but a fresh and well considered release and if you live in Holland you definitely should check them out at Dutch Doom Days VII in Rotterdam.
