Deadly Sins - Selling Our Weakness
Deadly Sins is a new Boston punk rock band fronted by Stephanie Dougherty. Stephanie is well-known for her work with Dropkick Murphy´s a.o. They even opened for the Dropkick Murphy´s on a recent tour through the US and Europe.
Deadly Sins´ punkrock isn´t very original or groundbreaking. The songs are easy to sing along with, but don´t surprise at all. Of course there are some nice tunes on this disc. Especially 'Open Casket´ is a great song. But the other songs I have heard in another version when I listened to, for example, a Distillers album.
Despite their unoriginality, Deadly Sins is still better than most other run of the mill punkrock bands. This is mainly thanks to the performance of Stephanie. She is above the curve as a singer and she shows that on this debut. For the rest of the band I have much less praise. Especially the vocals of Billy are not impressive at all, too bad because this could separate Deadly Sins from other female fronted punk bands. Also the guitar riffs are unimaginative.
So, there is a lot work to do for Deadly Sins, but for a debut this is not a bad effort. I even want to recommend this to Distiller fans.
