This Italian band was born out of an idea by two girlfriends in 2002. They wanted to form an all female stoner/doom band, but they had trouble to find other musicians. In 2006 they finally released their debut album called Flamingoing. On this album they changed their band sound drastically. Dirty stoner-rock with resemblances of bands like Acid King, Bottom and Fu Manchu. On their second album called Palace Court, Flat 19, they continue their mayhem with deafening stoner/doom tunes!

It’s easy to compare Stake Off The Witch with other heavy ‘girl-fronted’ bands like Bottom, L7 or Acid King, but due to the female vocals it's hard not to hear the resemblances with bands like that. Let the vocals not fool you though, because this band rocks! One of the strongest points within this band, are actually the vocals of Stefani. She sounds like a mix between Julie Christmas from Made Out Of Babies and someone like Courtney Love.

Musically this band is a fuzz-machine, which plays dirty, filthy sounding stoner/doom-rock. One band that really comes to mind is the all female stoner-band Bottom, mainly because of the same dirty, filthy sounding bass-sound both bands use. Stake Off The Witch is capable to write some really catchy stoner-riffs. This keeps the record interesting till the end. The haunting vocals of Stefani, the dirty bass-sound, the psychedelic guitar riffs, all the puzzle-pieces fall in place on this album.

The song ‘1383’ is my personal highlight of the album. This song builds up very slowly. The song starts off with a pounding drum and bass rhythm which is filled in with an eerie sounding psychedelic guitar riff and on top of that, the haunting vocals of Stefani. If you like really heavy, psychedelic stoner/doom stuff like Acid King or Bottom, you definitely check out this promising band!
