This Xplocore* band from the 'Bollenstreek' was formed back in 1995. They've already won the 'Essent Award' and played at big festivals like Ozzfest, Lowlands and Noorderslag. Besides the big festivals Smogus played together with Disturbed and Ill Nino and with this album Smogus is able to reach the bigger crowds as well.*(Xplocore = a mixture of nu-metal, hip-hop and funk)
First of all I'd like to give my compliments to the artwork of the album, it's very original! Then the album itself; the album starts explosive! With the great guitar melodies and with the extra additions to some older songs, for example some lyrics from the old song 'Get me Down', it's worth a try.
The music itself isn't that hard but you can hear that the album contains a very high level of emotion which the Smogus-members put in their music. The lyrics are full of emotions and very, very well-considered. There are at least five songs which give me the goose-bumps. Some weird sounds have been put in songs like 'Time Out' and 'Just for Me', which make them grab your attention immediately. Funny thing on the album; 'Flush your Life'. This is a hip-hop bonus track which actually sounds pretty good.
It's obvious that I like this album very much and together with the new slipknot album it is one of the best albums this year. Well, I mean that personally of course. It took a while to release 'No matter what the Outcome' but I think that is a good thing, while the music has got a more mature sound. For the fans and non-fans from Smogus out there, just give it a try, I'm sure it's worth it.
