Energy - Invasions of the Mind
All the way from Boston hails the band Energy, with an average age of 20. To be honest lately I've become a bit sceptic about all those youngsters. Most of the time their debut album is quite mediocre and not a great addition to the ever flowing stream of new albums.
So with that in the back of my head I’m questioning myself why the quality label Bridge Nine signed these youngsters.
With the track ´Invasions´ Energy truly has an intro to the album. Not a great one but it will do fine especially since it’s a great start up for the next track ´Hunter Red´ which blows from your speakers from the beginning. One of the things that grabs my attention are the vocals especially since they remind me of Zoli Teglas from Ignite in a way. Of course not the least name to be compared with. Within the following track there are some brutal hardcore vocals added that pushes the entire song to another level. Something that happens occasionally on this album.
Of course there’s much more to this album than the great melodic vocals lines. One of the other things I like about this album is the spontaneous sound. It gives you the feeling that the band had a lot of fun during the recording which contributes to the atmosphere when you're listening to the album. On the other hand the atmosphere on the album is already great with songs like ´The Silence´, ‘Heaven’ and ‘400’.
To be honest this album has it all. Great vocals, sing along choruses, a tight rhythm section and even a peaceful intermezzo that slowly builds up and finally is a great warm up for the last track on this amazing album.
Oh boy what was I wrong. Not only did Energy surprise me with this stunning debut album, also Bridge Nine again convinced me that they are one of the leading hardcore labels that are really capable of signing great new talents. Trust me there’s something beautiful in the making here. Within a few years when the band is a bit older this could be a really nice addition to the so called melodic hardcore scene.
