Abusiveness - Hybris
Abusiveness from Poland is active for a really long time already, yet they’re still not very known. They formed back in 1991 and released four demos, a split record and one single, while it wasn’t before 2002 until their debut full length record Krzyk Switu came out. Last year they added one record to their discography, entitled Hybris.

Abusiveness might be an underground band
; their production is everything except bad. An essential fact in my opinion, ‘cause I wouldn’t enjoy their blastbeats if they were all faded in the mix. The vocals spitted out by Mscislaw are excellent and fit in the music perfectly. Also the atmosphere is well set, Hybris is a typical record for the winter with its dark tunes.

The only issue I have my doubts about are the pagan influences that occur here and there on the album. It almost sounds that Abusiveness had a record deal in which they signed for pagan black, but they didn’t wanted to play it themselves. Anything that has a tiny bit to do with folk has been pushed to the back. Either take these influences to the foreground or keep them out of the album, this way it makes no sense.

That there is only a thin line between black and death metal in Poland is once again made clear by the line-up of this band. Both Mscislaw and drummer Wizun also take possession in a whole lot of other bands, including the typically Polish death metal act Deivos. If you dig Wizun’s blastbeats but you prefer death metal, I would recommend checking out his other band. If you’re more into furious black metal, Abusiveness must be your cup of tea.
