Neverland - Neverland
Power Metal. It is there in all shapes and sounds. Some remember only the high pitched vocals from Soul Sailor or the warm, melodic voice of Falconer's Karl Kristoffer Gbel as the 'sound of power'. Two extremes, needless to say.
Neverland's Mike Zotter has more in common with Kristoffer Gbel than any other metalvocalist, because he too can produce that kind of warmth which makes even old, conservative folks listen to Power Metal. The only minus on the vocal parts of this self-titled album is that Mike, unfortunately, rarely shows off his capabilities beyond the safe, midrange octaves.
Musically, things are quite all right. Well-written songs with memorable choruses make sure the songs on Neverland have a sound that floats smoothly through the air and enter the hearing channel with a subtle approach.
No Time To Lose and Neverland for example, are two of these songs. The chorus is touched by a breeze of melancholy and I must say, that soothes the wild metalmind a little.
A nice diversion from Express your servant, which shows a bit more guitar oriented agression, while Mysteria has some interesting drum riffs in it. And also in these songs the memorable choruses are still there.
Neverland has a really, really nice sound to it, considering the production and recording was done by the guys themselves. I think this deserves a lot of credit. They even sent me some professional promo-material. It looked great and I was pleased to be able to conclude that the music, just like the promotion stuff, was of good quality. Be sure to check this Swiss Powerband out!
