Silentrain - Wrong Way To Salvation
Although I’m about to discuss the debut album of Silentrain I’m not talking about a new and young band. Silentrain was formed back in ’99 under the name The Sanitarium, but they quickly changed their name in Dunces when they noticed The Sanitarium was already in use. Under the name Dunces they released 2 full-lengths, a single and an EP, but they never achieved something really big. With a new record company that got their back and a new name they’re now trying to start over.

I’m not in the position to compare their recent songs with those they made under the name Dunces, but they’ve made a decent album anyway. I doubt if their new name will bring them further than were they got stuck with Dunces though. On Wrong Way To Salvation everything is well taken care of, but it doesn’t give you anything special. Finland is one of the top players in metalland and they’ve got many bands that proved themselves outside its country borders, but Wrong Way To Salvation tends to be an overkill. Silentrain can musically be compared to Stratovarius, while the vocals often remind me of those of Sonata Arctica.

From their up-tempo tracks to their ballads: there is nothing wrong with the songs themselves, but when they released this record in ’99 or ’00 they would have had more change to reach the big audience. I hope they continue making music, because they truly can write some catchy tunes. Furthermore I wish them luck with their future, but they shouldn’t have the illusion they can become as big as their aforementioned country mates. Unfortunately it’s not everyone’s destiny to become famous.
