Coerced Into Battle - Enemy Mine
Recently I have the honour of reviewing a lot of metalcore bands. Most of them were nice and some of them were even great, but overall I’m a bit metalcore-tired. So, longing for some brutalness in my life, I stumbled over Coerced Into Battle’s Enemy Mine. It’s the first full-length album of these Oakland California based metalheads.
During the first couple of seconds I’m overwhelmed with brutal riffing, pounding drums and roaring vocals. After a couple of minutes I came out of ecstasy and started to realise I had to review this album. Well, on with the job. Coerced Into Battle consists of three members who mix the elements of thrash metal, death metal and hardcore. In other words: straight to your face metal that grabs you by the balls.
Indeed straight to your face is exactly how I would describe the sound of Coerced Into Battle. Don’t expect anything special, just mind blowing, head rushing thrash metal with some nice death metal vocals. Although the band has a different side. One that reveals itself with ‘The Addiction Dirge (Part 1)’ where the listener is treatened with some acoustic guitar sounds.
Overall Enemy Mine is a nice brutal album that’s full of mind blowing metal that’s fuelled by good old fashioned hate. Okay, I do admit it’s been done before and sometimes probably done better but considering it’s their debut album I’d say they did a nice job.
