Where Angels Fall - Marionettes
Norway’s Where Angels Fall was founded back in 2004 and with the release of Marionettes they present to us their third release and their second full-length record. Heavy music with female vocals, classical orchestration, and electronic elements should distinguish Where Angels Fall’s sound. When I read such kind of statements it mostly turns out to be just another goth rock act that tries to steal a little piece of the pie without deserving it.
When listening to Marionettes you can hear that this band has definitely got some talent and their performance on this album is very good. Unfortunately for them they’re competing with a lot of other acts in the genre. Their atmospheric music can best be compared to the Dutch band Delain and then especially the vocals of Eirin Bendigtsen sound a lot like those of Charlotte Wessels. Also some comparisons with Within Temptation can be made.
All in all I enjoyed listening to this album, but this won’t be an album which I will play when I’m in the mood for some goth rock / metal. Hopefully for them they’ve attracted some attention from some record labels with this release, ’cause with some more help they might be able to surprise me next time.
