Drunkula - All New Moves
This Canadian, Toronto based garage-rock band started out in 2004. The line-up basically exists out of wellknown people out of the underground garage/punk-rock scene from Toronto, with members of the Sinisters and The Illuminati. In 2005 they released their debut album called The Caretaker. Now they are back with their second full length, to spice up your booze-party.
I think the biggest hype around garage rock bands like TurboNegro and The Hellacopters passed away, but every now and then a new garage rock band pops up and kicks you in the ass! Drunkula is such a band. From the very first tone of ‘Swallow The Whole’, this album wants to make you boogie in front of your computer or stereo. This song is spiced up with some sixties sounding Hammond-organ stuff. After this song they only speed up their pace and really rock your socks off! Especially the last song, ‘Cold and Hard’, is a fast-paced, soul shaking rocker. Great!
This band is far from original, but the energy and the loads of fun and enthusiasm this album clearly has, makes it a really enjoyable ride in a huge American Cadillac convertible-car. Some bands that come in mind as resemblance are The Turpentines and The Hellacopters drenched in hip shaking soul and punk-rock grooves.
The French label Bad Reputation has released this new album as a special deluxe edition, together with the first album The Caretaker. If you like good, groovy garage rock that really rocks, you should check out this promising Canadian band. I’m curious how this band is on stage!
