The Swedish band No Hawaii was initially formed to play aggressive hardcore in 2003, but evolved to a more progressive and atmospheric sound as the years passed. Four demos were released already when the Bruce Lee In Your Brain EP saw the light of day in 2007, which now is about to be reviewed here. Let’s see what these guys are made of.

 

After hearing these three tracks it is obvious that No Hawaii produces a very broad sound. It took me quite a bunch of times before I really got everything this band does, and I must say that I like it a lot. The sounds of bands I hear in No Hawaii range from Faith No More and Tool to Cult Of Luna and ISIS. Interesting sound structures that feature experimental rock, ambient postcore and some hints of hardcore are displayed in the three (four if you count the hidden one) lengthy tracks, showcasing a very talented group of musicians.

 

Vocally this band is quite lucky, for vocalist Biggus is a very talented person. He undertakes aggressive hardcore/metal screams but also manages to sing clean in a very appealing, almost Mike Patton-like way. Overall there isn’t much to complain about on the Bruce Lee In Your Brain EP from my point of view. The bio states that they have entered the studio to record their debut full length, which I’m honestly very looking forward to if it is of the same or even better quality as this one.
