Falchion - Chronicles Of The Dead
Juho Kauppinen from the folk metallers of Korpiklaani had his own band before he joined the Finnish folk metallers. This band, called Falchion, has released one album in the past which was called Legacy Of Heathens. After releasing this album, Juho Kauppinnen went to the accordion in Korpiklaani and Falchion was doomed to die a lonely death. But considering Juho had too much spare time left, he brought the band back together and brought along the drummer of Korpiklaani. All this finally resulted in the second album of Falchion called Chronicles Of The Dead.

Whereas Korpilaani has a lot of folk influences within the music, those influences are harder to find within the music of Falchion. Certainly, when you consider the style is more of a melodic death metal sound, which by the way reminds me a bit of Amorphis and Ensiferum. Now you might think how the accordion sounds with death metal, well I can’t tell you because there isn’t any within the music of Falchion. Juho Kauppinen is responsible for the vocals and guitar on this album. In which he does a great job.

It’s pretty obvious that a folk death metal band from Finland has lyrics about the Finnish folkore and of course Falchion isn’t an exception to this. This probably makes the entire package interesting for fans of bands like Amon Amarth and Ensiferum. In my humble opinion the songs on this album are not the most original in the genre but the production is in good shape and the band is pushing its limits very hard. They are currently on tour with (indeed) Korpiklaani. I’d say that Falchion created a nice album that should find its way to the regular viking across the world.
