Godsplague - H8
We all know that Finland is somewhat considered special since a lot of great metal bands reside from that country. I don’t know if it’s the culture, the mentality or just some stuff they put in the water, because almost every year there are some great new bands from that country. Godsplague is kind of in the same position. With already two albums in their back pocket, which both had some singles in the Finnish charts, they release their latest effort upon humanity.

H8 is the name of the third album of Godsplague which starts heavily with ‘Zero Mission’. After a nice downtuned guitar intro the pedal goes to the metal and there’s this great groove that makes you nod along instantly. Bands like Black Label Society, C.O.C, Down and Pantera immediatly pop up in my brain. Indeed, it’s groove metal to the top. Although I have to admit I do hear some vocals in the second song, ‘Useless’, that remind me a lot of Sentenced. But that's also where the comparison with that band ends.

Reading the booklet I discovered the name Alexi Laiho (Children Of Bodom) who played some solos and riffs on this album. He is also one of the H8 choirboys. I’d guess it’s a dream that comes true for him. On the other hand, you could say he’s backing up talent from his own country because if you’d ask me there’s nothing wrong with this album. Of course several things sound familiar and were probably done before. But the lack of originality is very well compensated with the passion and enthusiasm that’s on this album.

Indeed my friends, Godsplague is a name to remember and if you like the bands mentioned above, you know what to do!
