Ultra Vomit - Objectif: Thunes
This French parody-band started out in 2000. In that time, they released a demo and their debut album Mr. Patate. In front of us now, is their second full length album Objectif: Thunes on Listenable Records. From what I heard they are a big hit in France, their shows are sold out everywhere and they bring happiness back in the French metal-scene. Unfortunately I think it will go no further than the French border!
Parody bands are either very good or just plain rubbish. Ultra Vomit are very gifted musicians, who decided to use their talent to re-style other music and make their own versions from well known bands as Motörhead, Ministry, Slipknot, Cannibal Corpse, Dimmu Borgir and many more. They do it in such a convincing way, it’s impossible to sit still by. Everyone can find a musical masterpiece on this album that he likes. It goes from metalized pop-tunes, black, hardcore, mosh, death to Motörhead style rock ‘n’ roll.
Some of the highlights on this album are ‘Quand J’etais Petit’ which is a brilliant up-tempo Motörhead rocker. If Motörhead had written this song themselves, it would belong to one of the best songs they had ever written. Another highlight is ‘Canidal Corpse’, which is a parody on the Cannibal Corpse song ‘Hammer Smashed Face’, with a sampled barking dog as the vocals of Chris Barnes. Brilliant!
Is there nothing to bitch about on this record? Yes, there is. Musically this bunch of crazy Frenchmen are almost perfect, but all their lyrics and therefore also all the jokes are in French. I really don’t speak one word of that paraplu/croissant-language, so I don’t have a clue what they are singing about, besides the obvious jokes. It’s a shame that such a talented band restricts themselves to their native country only. And it’s not fair to the artist/bands to make fun of them in a language they don’t speak themselves. I’d rather see them sing in English, so that everybody understands what they are joking about.
Or perhaps I should learn French!
