Egoist - Ultra-Selfish Revolution
Egoist is a one-man project formed by Polish multi-instrumentalist Stanislaw Wolonciej. This guy has a wide variety in musical inlfuences, but the direction he has chosen with Egoist is that of technical, progressive metal. Let’s see what this second full length, the follow-up to 2007’s Dead Egg, has to offer.
Ultra-Selfish Revolution, sounds like the trend this world has been going through since the dawn of capitalism. It’s also a perfect album title if your band/project is called Egoist I’d say. The music created by this dude lies in the area of Meshuggah, Faith No More, Textures, Cynic and more progressive and experimental stuff like that. A lot of rhythmic riffs combined with atmospheric samples and equally atmospheric vocals that at times remind of one Mike Patton. Regarding sound and vocal lines that is, although he never really makes it. He does give it some nice tries, but nothing really makes it. A pity, for the music is really nice to listen to, if you’re into the rhythmical tech metal stuff.
Overall it is a nice album filled with technical metal and not so conventional, clean vocals. It should appeal to fans of the bands mentioned above, although whether you’ll really like it is entirely up to the fact if you can handle and like the vocals. One thing is for sure, this guy knows how to write some interesting music, check it out if you’re looking for something different.
