1995 was the last time Thornium released new material. With Thypheus being in prison for some years the band was put on hold, but now, after fourteen years, this Swedish black metal project has come to life yet again with the release of Mushroom Clouds and Dusk.

I guess it doesn’t get any more black metal than this. Not being able to record new tracks, because you spend your time in prison for whatever crime you have committed. Unfortunately I don’t know the reason why Thypheus was in prison, but this ignorance makes it even a bigger mystery which appeals to me even more.

Now for the music. 'Döden' opens the album loud, fast and extremely brutal. If you like it hard, you surely can appreciate Mushroom Clouds and Dusk with its up speed blast beats and riffs that make you shiver. Although the tracks don’t contain any special elements, Thypheus has proven to have a black heart with this album being as cold as ice. Not necessarily a good album, not bad either. It’s just loud and out there.
