Acid Drinkers - Verses Of Steel
Already formed in 1986, you could almost call Poland’s Acid Drinkers a cult act. Be it that they never really reached a bigger audience to my knowing. The band has released their 13th full length record through Mystic Production/Regain Records last year, entitled Verses Of Steel. Let’s review.
 
Acid Drinkers is a main stream metal band. There, I said it. When listening to Verses Of Steel, bands like Machine Head, Chimaira, Sepultura and Pantera come to mind. Which means groovy, catchy riffs, not too original but easy to get into. Overall an enjoyable listening, yet the lack of originality might make you wanna play a record of one of the aforementioned bands instead of this one.
 
Yet there is a point of irritation on this record, at least for me that is. The main singing voice has this sort of tough guy attitude over it, which just doesn’t work. I’m just not buying it. I don’t believe this guy when he sings his lyrics, he’s no Rob Flynn for short. And neither is any other of the voices. They just sound weird, a bit awkward even.
 
Well, if you’re into an easy listening groove metal band in the vein of the bands mentioned above, give Acid Drinkers a chance. If you’re looking for something new, don’t even bother checking Verses Of Steel.
