Mind Odyssey - Time To Change It
The history of Mind Odyssey takes us back to the old days when Berlin was still divided by a great wall. At least the members played in bands from that area and that is probably the only link to that time. Somewhere along the way during some major line up changes Victor Smolski from Rage entered the band. Their previous album was recorded in 1999 and after a long hiatus they came back together in 2008 with renewed strength and energy. Let’s see what the old guys are up to.

The old school power driven melodic metal of Mind Odyssey starts with ‘Riding And Ruling’. The song that probably handles about cars since you can hear some engines roaring during the intro. A rather boring start of the album if you’d ask me, but soon after this the good songs are starting to arrive. With ‘Enemy Daggers’, ‘Face In The Rain’ and ‘I Want It All’, which has a great cheesy sing along chorus, Mind Odyssey shows its own face with some great guitar riffs, powerful vocals and great arrangements.

Probably the only problem with this kind of music is that it sounds a bit outdated. On the other hand, everything is old school nowadays so this type of music could come back after all. It’s pretty clear that these guys are just making the music they enjoy themselves. Next to that they probably don’t give a shit about what’s hot or not in the music scene and I give them all the credits for that.

Time To Change It is an album you certainly need to check out when you’re into the old school melodic metal like Savatage for example. For all the hip youngsters just turn to the new Enter Shikari album because you probably won't like this one anyway. I’m just giving it another spin.
