The Fifth Alliance - Reflections On Consciousness
The Fifth Alliance from Breda, Netherlands has just released a new EP called Reflections On Consciousness. Their previous release was their demo that resulted in a record contract on Crossfirecult Records. According to their MySpace they sound like a heavy grooving sound of controlled dissonance and rhythmic twists.
On their demo Fear Consumption The Fifth Alliance already showed some potential. A minor on that demo is the lack of variety within the music. Their latest effort still has some of the same problems. The first song, ‘Thirteen’, indeed lacks some variety and also some of the mathcore parts are not always right. Sadly enough this is also the same for ‘Let Terror Reign’. But with ´Bombs On The World’ they finally show some of their potential.
During ‘Twisted Vision’ I’m finally convinced by The Fifth Alliance. This song contains some great parts and this keeps it entertaining for the entire song. The same goes for the last song on the album called ‘Moment Of Consideration’. My conclusion is that they where probably too hasty with recording a new effort. Some of the songs sound just too easy and also the mathcore concept is not really convincing during most of the songs. It’s a bit like mathcore for beginners.
