Dead By Dawn already was a quite successful metal band and a quality live act. After they called it quits, the singer, bassist and guitarist recruited a new drummer and another guitarist (who is also the producer) and started working on a mixture of traditional thrash metal and melodic death metal. In the meantime they replaced their bassist and continued working on new material. The result lies before me now in the shape of this EP entitled Killing Reality.

 

First of all I want to mention that the production of these five tracks is very nice for a (mostly) home produced effort. Next to this the band packs a catchy groove and plays some very nice standard metal for everyone to enjoy. Names like Machine Head, Fear Factory (especially in the melodies), The Haunted and such come to mind when listening to this record, which implicates that they have a solid sound but still miss a bit of a face of their own. I don’t think that’s what they’re aiming for anyway, so no harm done. Completing the package is vocalist Richard who packs a very nice and brutal voice which rumbles over the album quite nice. I’m not too sure about the clean vocal parts yet though.

 

Well, if you look at the package you already know you’re dealing with something sweet here. The artwork is also of a high quality, making this a worthy addition to the Dutch metal scene. Already looking forward to playing with them again! Cheers!
