Banane Metalik - Nice To Meat You
I got introduced to this band by their appearance on the last Speedfest. In France Banane Metalik is already a big household name, but outside France they are not very well known yet. This album Nice To Meat You is their third attempt to conquer the world!

This is a band where the visual concept is just as important as the music. Unfortunately you can’t see the visual aspect on a CD, so we have to do it with the music only. Musically this band is in the psychobilly rock ‘n roll corner, but you can also hear influences of punk and sometimes hardcore. This gives it a gore ‘n roll sound, as they like to call it themselves!
As you might have guessed by now, the lyrical/conceptual aspect of this band is gore, horror film influenced. Lyrics about grave-robbery, zombies, blood/gore and a murder-party! Lyrics are both in French and in English, but the English is sung in a ridiculously bad French accent.
Most songs on this album are decent, but nothing new under the sky. Standard psychobilly rock ‘n roll, which is played very well. Especially the songs that are a little different are the songs that make this record a bit more interesting. Like for instance the song ‘Murder Party’ which is a fast, upbeat hardcore/punk ‘n roll song with loads of energy. Or the song ‘Mon Oiseau Rare’ which has an organ and a Mexican trumpet in it, that gives this song a macabre Spanish/Italian horror-film feel to it!
Although there are some good songs on this album, this album is too much out of balance through the many mediocre songs on it. If you are into psychobilly rock ‘n roll, like Mad Sin and the likes you might want to give this a spin!
