Digger & The Pussycats - DIY
Digger & The Pussycats are an Australian based two-piece rock band that already have three albums under their belt. DIY is their fourth full length effort, released in Europe through P.Trash Records. Let’s see what we have here.
Digger & The Pussycats have a very basic sound, with just a drummer and a guitarist that both sing. The guitar sound is very thin and vintage, making the whole atmosphere quite retro punky rock ‘n’ roll. There is not a whole lot of variation to be found here, as it was in the old days, just the most straight forward riffing and drumming caught on tape in short songs. Personally I have to say that somewhere around track seven on this record, I’ve had enough. This is mostly caused by the vocals which I find a bit annoying, but I think that might just be a totally personal feeling. Because the fact is, that after listening to DIY twice most of the choruses are already stuck in my head. So no lack of catchiness I suppose.
But still I think that after hearing this album several times more, the fun is basically gone and I feel like playing something else. I would like to see these guys play live sometime, perhaps in such an environment (with beer) it would get to me. Fans of vintage punk and rock ‘n’ roll music might want to give this one a try though.
