Hailing from Denmark, By The Patient was formed in 2006. Early last year they completed their current line-up and after one demo record in 2008, they now bring us their first EP entitled Catenation Of Adversity. What will these youngsters have in store for us?

By The Patient mixes and mashes a number of styles into a whole that is nowadays known as deathcore. Influences of thrash, death and melodic metal combined with hints of grind form the basis for the sound, and I must say that they pack quite a nice groove. The only problem is that these days there are literally hundreds of bands trying to do the same. And although these guys manage to make it sound tight and solid, the overall originality of the five songs on this EP isn’t exactly stunning. And that is my main point of negativity, I’ve heard most of these riffs, beats, grunts and growls before.

 

By The Patient offer a nice listen with Catenation Of Adversity, but only for the real fans of the genre. It’s executed tightly and the EP has a nice sound, but as I said there is not enough interesting material in these songs to keep me focussed on the music. Other than that I wish these guys the best of luck and I’m curious to find out what they’ll come up with next!
