Plutonium Orange - Volume
Plutonium Orange is a hardrock/stoner-rock band out of Finland which already existed in 2000. To this day they never released an album until now! Within the ranks of Plutonium Orange we’ll find two members of the Finnish doom/death-metal band Swallow The Sun.

Plutonium Orange is nothing like their main band Swallow The Sun. This band feels a bit like a side project of these members, erected to do something totally different! Musically this band plays melodic stoner/hardrock that really reminds me of the Swedish band Mother Misery, but unfortunately not as good as this band. Other resemblances are Monster Magnet, Mustasch, Foo Fighters and other more alternative sounding bands. Overall the craftsmanship of the musicians is hearable, but somehow this album lacks a little bit of power. Most of the songs sound very good, with nice melodies and vocals, but they also miss some balls and power.
Some of the better songs on this album are also the heavier songs. Especially the songs ‘Bring Out Your Dead’ and ’13 Minutes Of Agony’ are examples of heavier, more stoner orientated songs. The song that really takes the cake on this album though, is the first song called ‘One Of Us’. This song is a perfect example of a beautiful song filled with incredible melodies, but at the same time also a powerful drive! Unfortunately the rest of the album is filled with nicely played melodic stoner-rock, but that isn’t enough to get this album above the many mediocre releases out there.
I hope this band will evolve a bit more to a more riff orientated, melodic stoner band in the future, because the craftsmanship and ideas are there! Let’s hope Volume II is a heavier album than this one.
