Aebsence - Unusual
Due to a lack of Record labels Hungarian bands are having problems publishing their efforts in other countries. A few weeks ago I received a copy of the latest Aebscence album Unusual. They were asking around for help promoting their album. This is the first time I have put my attention towards this album. The band has been together since 1995 and released 2 demos and were on one compilation CD. They are trying to find partners, distributors and publishers interested in their music. Maybe this review can trigger some people.
The style Aebscence plays can be described as rock or nu-metal mixed with folk elements. When I listen to the album I can hear vocals which reminds me of Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. But this one can sing in Hungarian as well. The folk elements gives the music another dimension which I kind of like. It gives the music some mystery. The production of this CD (as well as all of the other Hungarian bands I know) is pretty good.
An advise to the band is the usage of more instruments of the region you are living in. The folk element is clearly present but you can accent this with other instruments.
Besides the music the cover is creative and mysterious. The Biography / Letter I received is lovely with great pictures. A booklet would be nice with this album but money is a problem in every starting band and to send the press a real album is too expensive. Therefore I am reviewing the promo edition.
Overall again one great album by a Hungarian band. This time it is a band which combines their music with Hungarian elements and that is always interesting. For me this is not the best record I have heard but it sure isn’t bad. If you are into rock (little bit more heavier) and you are in for something new try an mp3 on their site. You might like it!
