Thou Art Lord - DV8
10 years ago The Magus (Necromantia) and Sakis (Rotting Christ) decided to start a project named Thou Art Lord. The reason: play fast, loud extreme sinister music without restrictions and limitations. Gothmog (Terra tenebrae, Mortify) was added as a vocalist and Thou Art Lord was complete.
They released a 7" EP in 1993 called 'Diabolou Archaes Legeones' (The Devil's Ancient Legions), followed by a 7" Split EP with Ancient Rites. In 1994 a full length cd was released named Eosforos, followed by Apollyon in 1995. After this released the project was set to a hold because the members wanted to focus on their primary bands.
7 years later The Magus and Sakis decided to dig up Thou Art Lord again and bring it to life. Seth (Septic Flesh) joined the two to do the main vocals and Akis K. (Septic Flesh, Naer Mataron, etc.) joined to do the drumming. In this formation is DV8 released.
DV8 is a good cd, featuring high speed drumming and guitar playing and grunts which will tear you up. Still at some parts it reminds me of things I've heard before. Which is too bad, because this project has the potention to grow their music.
The last song on the cd, Those We Guide, is the best song I've heard so far. The way the song works its speed up is done perfectly. Other songs on the album usually start with the double bass drumming, throw in the guitar and we're in the middle of the song. I think that's the point where TAL has to change something.
Overall: good cd, but misses some originality.
