Von Sirius - The Mystical Doktryn Of Spiritual Accomplishment
I really love the internet. I can find any information of any band…Well I believed so. When I got ‘The Mystical Doktryn Of Spiritual Accomplishment’ of Von Sirius I knew nothing about this band. There is absolutely no information in the booklet, it doesn’t include a web address, and the record company’s site doesn’t even include the name Von Sirius anywhere on their website. The only usable information I was able to find were in fuckin’ French! Whaaaah! All I could find was that Von Sirius is a band, not a one-man project, and they are from France.
Von Sirius can be described as electronic gothic industrial metal. But it cannot be compared to bands like The Kovenant or Samael in my opinion. It is a little different. On the The Kovenant and Samael albums (I mean the later ones) the industrial influences are more integrated into the music then as on ‘The Mystical Doktryn Of Spiritual Accomplishment'. Next to that, Von Sirius has got some doom metal influences, which I like very much, especially the doomy vocals, they are just great. Also the clean vocals sound very nice and remember me of some vocals of the latest Therion cd ‘Lemuria’.Some of the lyrics are in French, which I cannot understand, but they sure sound nice.
What I really like about ‘The Mystical Doktryn Of Spiritual Accomplishment’ is the fact that electronic and doomy parts (with church organs and stuff) are both used in the single songs. Modern meets classic, I like it.
I must say the guitarists aren’t very technical but they play some nice catchy riffs.
After a while the songs seem to sound like they are all the same, which is a pity. The production isn’t bad but it could be better. I miss the boost of the guitars in some parts.
Well I must say I’ve never heard anything like Von Sirius before, but on the other hand, I’ve heard better in this genre. (??? Damn I’m a hypocrite)
Overall ‘The Mystical Doktryn Of Spiritual Accomplishment’ is quite nice to listen to, but there are bands which use a better combination of electro, gothic, indstrial and metal.
