Dear Diary - How To Become A Ghost
Dear Diary is a German Emo/Indie band and they are releasing their second album on Bastardized Recordings in June. Metalrage received this album and I have listened to this album quite a lot last week.

The first time I listened this album the first thing I noticed was the great usage of instruments. But on the other hand the vocals just didn’t grab my attention. They were kind of dull and boring. But maybe I needed to get used to this type of singing. That is the reason why I listened some more to this album over the week. But still upon this moment I think the vocals are pushed too much. They are trying too hard to sing English and because of this they sound a bit out of tone.

I hear you Emo kids shouting. That is normal with Emo but on this album it is just annoying. And when you listen to the music you know it deserves better. And besides that, the cover, the CD, the booklet; it’s all great.

And about the instruments. I really like the drum parts on this album. With a lot of variety in the fills and a lot of different patterns they really give the music some extra quality. Besides that, using two guitarists that both do vocals they are sure trying to do something special with their music.

The enhanced CD also contains a video of the band. And this is some compilation of live footage, recording and band material that is pasted together. It is pretty cool to see the band playing but the quality is awful, too bad!

Overall I do like this album musically, but I still can’t understand why the vocals are like this. Maybe it is just me but it is a shame the vocals are forced on the disc. Maybe they are great live, according to their biography they are planning an European tour in the upcoming Fall so maybe they can prove me wrong on stage!
