Mindlag Project - Skylla
After taking a look at this disc’s artwork I felt like I had gotten some kind of gore recording. A nasty looking fridge with even nastier contents makes one wonder… But it still proved out to be a pretty nice selection of metalcore like the bio said it would be. Mosh it up!
This French band kind of surprised me. I’ve heard too much uninteresting thrash/hardcore acts to have any expectations at all, but this one actually appealed to me. Kick ass moshing riffs that go hand in hand with an enthusiastic vocalist who screams from the bottom of his lungs is the formula for most of this band’s songs. There are some short emo parts here and there that doesn’t really do anything for me, but are nice to create some variation. Some melodic parts have a kind of epic undertone to it, which I also appreciate very much.
I feel that as soon as this band comes up with a full length release a gateway will be opened for them. This really could go places. They’ve got that “proud” hardcore spirit in their music combined perfectly with the brutality of thrash metal. Nothing truly original, but a lot of stolen ingredients put together in a very tasty recipe works fine for me too.
