Engelstaub - Akashic Recordings
Engelstaub is a german darkwave project, and the album Akashic Recordings was released in 2002.
I listen to darkwave almost weekly, and I am kind of forced to since I often hang out in some gothic club. There are different styles of darkwave, the somewhat brain killing darkwave (beats that will give you a headache) and the more relaxing darkwave. We got a hold of the second style here with Engelstaub. Engelstaub creates an ambient atmosphere with this album, beautiful songs filled with a great variety of sounds and instruments. 'The Return' for example makes me think of a medival composition, with beautiful vocals. I normally hate female vocals in music, but this is something completely different and gives the music a more grown up image. Next to the female vocals there are male vocals as well, no screaming or repeating lines through the entire song, far from it. Pure singing in a melodical way backed up by the beautiful ambient music, taking you to another place where time doesn't exist...There is only one word to descripe this: beautiful.
