Drawn And Quartered - Hail Infernal Darkness
I have been into death metal for some time now, and I figured out what kinds I do and don’t like. But there has been one band that I thought was never copied ever, until I got this promo.

As some of you may know, there is a death metal band called Immolation putting out albums for quite some time now. As I visited the website for Drawn And Quartered I noticed that two out of four bandmembers were wearing an Immolation shirt. I own about everything still available by Immolation, so I felt like checking this one out.

It appeared to be indeed a nice copy of that band mentioned above, but with some slight alternations. The way of riffing resembles Immolation a lot, as there are a lot epic fast riffs and unorthodox solo’s, but where they usually make use of letting certain tones ring, Drawn And Quartered prefers to strike it as much as possible, thus creating a kind of black metal effect occasionally. Vocally this album couldn’t have come much closer to their idols I think. These guys sounds only a tad lower than Ross Dolan if you ask me.

But I feel like the drumming is done in quite a different way. As Immolation has an extremely distinct way of blastbeating and grooving their drums in a way that is not done by anyone else for as far as I know, this band has tried a different approach. There is a lot of variation between fast blastbeats and double bass fuelled patterns. It occasionally sounds like I’m listening to one of Pete Sandoval’s apprentices or something.

Now I’ve never been a big fan of copying formula’s, but then again if it’s a copy from something I really dig and it's done in a way that it's made their own a bit I can appreciate it. And that’s exactly what this band did. A perfect imitation of Immolation with a recognisable touch of their own. Finally people are starting to recognise the importance of this style of death metal.
