Deacon Street - II
The project Deacon Street originally started out with Tommy Denander and his partner Chris Demming (AOR, Spin Gallery), who had written songs together for various artists and found themselves with a lot of very good but unused AOR / melodic rock songs. But, as Tommy points out, “Don't mistake it for a cheap and fast way to get some leftover songs out - If you're a serious fan of classy melodic rock you won't be disappointed with the quality of this release”.

As I found out a bit too late, Deacon Street definitely isn’t my cup of tea. Oh no, this certainly isn’t bad! But I just don’t think this stuff will attract the average Metalrage.com visitor. This is rock like it was made a couple of decades ago. Rock, like your and my mum likes to listen to when she’s in a ‘rock-mood’. Songs that definitely can be called rock every now and then…but sometimes there’s songs on this disc which could easily be a Brian Adams-ballad. Track 5, ‘I Give This Promise’ is a very good example of that.

A very smooth production is used on this album and please don’t expect any angry vocals here ‘cause the vocals on this disc won’t even come close to your expectation. This album contains some good music, I won’t deny that. But at Metalrage.com we’re looking for some bad-ass heavy music, which Deacon Street just doesn’t have to offer.

So, if you’d like to hear some really, really, really soft (ballad)rock songs, then you’ll appreciate this album. No doubt! Though, personally I think this disc would be a nice present for the average classy rock loving parent. Well, it’s almost mothers day, how ‘bout that?!
