Tystnaden - Sham Of Perfection
Sometimes you just gotta take one for the team and review an album that is in a style that does not exist in most of the crewmembers’ record collection. And sometimes you take one that does absolutely not fit with your own musical preferences. Like this one.

Italy’s Tystnaden make something interesting though. A combination of clean female vocals (by a very pretty lady might I add) and mildly deep male screams to start of with, joined by easy listening rock and heavy metal with some (very good produced) synths all worked out with a great feel for songwriting. If this sounds like your interests you should definitely give this a spin.

Now don’t mistake female vocals with gothic stuff, because this is certainly not your average high-soaring soprano infested keyboard gay metal band. It does have a slight gothic touch over it though, but it is not meant to be emphasized and I thank them for that. But that touch is also more caused by the synths than by the vocals, so she’s not to blame.
The music is just plain hard rock and heavy metal, with a better production than they had back in the days when mentioning those two genre’s was still hip, and men had long hair for a reason. It all sounds very smooth and enchanting to be honest, with the brutality mainly hidden in the bass drum.

The songwriting is really good on this record. The songs all make sense and variety is also highly present on this disc, which makes it even more pleasant to listen to. For fans of female vocals (which I’m not, unfortunately) with a weakness for mild brutality this is something to look out for.
