I don´t think that Alter Bridge need any introduction. After the very successful album One Day Remains, they toured the world like crazy with the result that Alter Bridge is a household name with every rock fanatic.
I had very high expectations before listening to this album. I think One Day Remains is one of the better rock debut albums in ages, so the bar was set high for Blackbird. And to jump right to the conclusion, their second album is even better!
The main reason for this album to be better than their debut is the growth Myles Kennedy has gone through. He already was an exceptional good singer, but even raised his level on this disc. I even think that he challenges or is even a better singer than Chris Cornell is, which is a huge compliment! This growth gives Alter Bridge even more dynamics than before. He reaches the higher notes with ease and when necessary shows that he has a lot of volume in his voice. People who ever visited an Alter Bridge gig can reckon that. An excellent example is the song âBlackbirdâ. He explores divers terrains of his voice in this song and he does it in a great way.
Another great step forward is that this album is a bit more coherent than their debut. Besides that, the songs are also a bit heavier and the song writing skills are on a higher level. The riffs are also more memorable and more divers.
This is just a must buy if youâre into rock music. It doesnât get much better than this!
