Today Forever - Today counts and it lasts forever
A little while ago I reviewed Today Forever’s new full length, called Profound Measures. As I wanted to find out a little more about the band I sent them some questions, which they kindly enough answered within a couple of days (some bands could learn from that!). Here’s the result.

Please introduce yourself and your band.

Marco: ‘My Name is Marco, I play the bass in Today Forever.’

Manni: ‘And my Name is Manni, I play guitar in Today Forever.’

How did you guys come up with this band name?

Manni: ‘Marco and me joined the band when it already was named. Actually Christian, Tim and Dave started Today Forever and they thought it would be a good idea. For me it’s kind of like a principle how to live my life, today counts and it lasts forever.’

Marco: ‘I’m pretty sure it was exactly like that…NOT.’

If you had to compare your musical style to any other band, what would it be?

Manni: ‘Difficult question right now. We had some Profound Measures reviews in the youngest past in which this question just couldn’t be answered! Some say we sound like Comeback Kid, Silverstein or other random bands. We just prefer to say we sound like Today Forever, we do mix different influences, we combine them to our favourite sound.’

Marco: ‘I think we can’t be compared to just one band (at least I hope so…). I would say we sound like us, and that is hardcore with melodies, some metal, a touch of pop, and a lot of heart.’

I personally feel like there is more and more melodic hardcore coming from Germany and the bands tend to sound a bit like each other, what is your perception on that?

Marco: ‘Well, I think that you should have a closer look at your neighbour’s scene. There are at least as many bands of other styles than there are the melodic hardcore types. And they don’t sound alike in my opinion.’

What instrument do you play (brand & type)?

Manni: ‘I play Gibson SG and Les Paul CustomShop guitars, my amplifier is a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. I use 4*12 and 2*12 Mesa Boogie Rectifier cabinets.’

Marco: ‘My sound comes out of a Mesa Boogie Big BlockTitan V12 and Mesa Boogie Powerhouse cabinets. I play a Fender Jazz-bass.’

Tell us about writing and recording Profound Measures, did it turn out the way you wanted?

Manni: ‘We started writing around December 2006. Almost a year later we had our first recording session. The schedule of our studio was pretty packed. When our producer/engineer found some time for the next session we went on tour with Silverstein. We also lost some time with stuff like our video-shoot so we basically finished recording in December 2008. So unfortunately it took really long this time.’

Marco: ‘Usually we write songs with everyone in the band around, at practice. Someone comes up with an idea, we start to work on it and combine it with other ideas till the song can stand for itself. Then we play it a couple of times over weeks to see if it needs some more touches. It’s nothing spectacular, I think 8 out of 10 bands do it kind of the same way. We are very happy how the new recordings turned out.’

How did you come up with the title for the album?

Manni: ‘It was much easier to find the title for the first full length, I don’t know exactly why. At least we wanted to find a title in which every band-member can find something related to us, our feelings and our music.’

Marco: ‘It would be way more interesting why we didn’t end up with one of the 34327524 other ideas for the title, that didn’t make it…’

What steps in your career are you most proud of?

Manni: ‘Definitely our first big tour in the U.S. and our tour with Silverstein across Europe last year. I think it is a big step for every band to play international shows and get feedback about your music from other countries.’

Marco: ‘Yes, like he said. And it’s amazing to be able to travel around on the globe, just because of music.’

What goals would you still like to achieve?

Manni: ‘We do think in shows! We want to play! We think with every single show we can reach more people with our music. This is our biggest goal for the future. We want to share our passion. A better chance for us to do this more often would be a deal with a good booking-agency. A cooperation-contract within 2009 would be nice!’

What’s the most precious thing you would give up for landing a great record deal and/or lots of publicity?

Manni: ‘Music and especially this band means a lot for everyone in Today Forever, but this music is our hobby, we want to be as professional as we can be and we spend a lot of time and power for this passion, but we know about the important things in life…family and friends.’

Marco: ‘Even though we are not big at all we already gave up a lot for this precious little hobby called Today Forever.’

Please share your touring/future plans with us.

Manni: ‘Our plans are to tour as often as our life as husbands and employees allow us to do that! Right now we are planning to tour in July and August. I think we will tour in October as well. Hopefully we will be able to play some long weekends with three or four shows all over the year! We are also planning to produce a new video within the next three months. All the rest is top secret, sorry!’

Anything left to say to our readers? Here’s your chance!

Thank you for this interview Erik! For your readers: come to our shows, talk to us, we always like to meet people, listen to our music and enjoy it! Thank you!’

Thank you very much for your time and good luck in the future!
