Today Forever - Profound Measures
As I’m often surprised by bands from the German label Bastardized Recordings, I figured I should check out what one of their latest additions, Today Forever, had to offer me. Their website says they play new school melodic hardcore for fans of Comeback Kid and Underoath. Well, good for them. The problem is, that I have since long found a band that did not pleasantly surprise me. In fact, I am even a bit disappointed.
You see, bands like Today Forever can be found on almost every street corner. And I absolutely don’t mean to insult them with that fact. But the simple truth is, there isn’t much new to discover when you listen to Profound Measures. Sure, they play some catchy melodic tunes here and there, and they don’t shy away from an occasional mosh moment either, but that’s it.
Music wise it makes me think a bit of The Blackout Argument, of which I have reviewed some discs in the past. Vocal wise, again The Blackout Argument in a certain way. Be it, that Christian’s melodic voice annoys be a bit sometimes. It makes me wonder why he didn’t just stick to his screams, which sound more convincing in my humble opinion.
We may well conclude that Today Forever isn’t gonna bring anything new to the table. They play some nice songs, like ‘Cellphone Slaves’ but if you are not into the genre in the first place, this band ain’t gonna change that. Simple, melodic hardcore for the masses that are easily satisfied. Hey, there’s a market for that as well!
