Textures - Live @ Gentse Feesten 2006
Last weekend I visited the Belgian annual ‘Gentse Feesten’ which can be translated as ‘Parties in Gent’. For a period of ten days there are several music genres represented on various locations within the city. Because I was there for only one night I and I also wanted to do some sightseeing within the city I got to see two bands. But what was just another day out became a remarkable Belgian night.

After our tour in the city which included shopping (CD’s, Clothes.. you know, the usual stuff) and dinner we decided to go to a bar called ‘t Tonneke. Every day during the event there were playing one or two metalbands. Today Gnais was playing and we actually saw two songs. And here is where the fun starts. The band used the same riff non stop which creates one long song and a show was nowhere to be found. And about the lyrics, the only two sentences the band used were ‘People will kill you. Yes they will do!’. Wow, this will be the next big thing!

Continuing our night after this incredible funny act we went to the Frontline which is a well known venue (read: a building which was falling apart!) in this city. Our good friends of Textures were playing there and after entering the place we saw a good show once again. After some troubles the bass player had with his instrument we witnessed one flawless show with 30 people. The band keeps impressing me with their technical straight forward music and they prove this fact over and over again. With old songs like Swandive, Ostensibly Impregnable, Transgression and some new songs of their new album ‘Drawing Circles’ like Drive (a part of it due to the bass problems), Stream of Consciousness, Circular and Millstone the band ended their set after a one song encore.

I immediately left the building to say goodbye and party on! For me once again a good night of metal with Textures. If you have not seen this band live and you are from the Netherlands you should be ashamed. This is something to see several times, they get better each time I see them.
