Textures, Superbutt - Yet ANOTHER Textures review :p
At the moment Textures is the biggest (reasonably) common metal band in this small country. So what better to do on a Friday night than check out this band for their last Dutch club show before they start recording the new album?

Opening act was the Hungarian rock/metal band Superbutt, a band that has been brought to my attention by the many Sziget festival visitors that Metalrage has. I can’t say that I was really impressed by their rocking nu-metal songs, but there were some occasional riffs that were pretty cool. There were just simply too many standard parts that I’ve heard all too often that made this band sound a little mediocre. The vocals surely weren’t outstanding, but with some weird vocal lines and an enthusiastic stage performance the vocalist still managed to entertain. A reasonably good warm-up, but an extra Dutch metal band on the bill besides Superbutt was a bit of a miss actually. (DemonDust)

Textures, did they ever give a disappointing show? At least I can’t think of any and there can be a great number of live reviews found on Metalrage of excellent Textures shows, pretty boring right? Well, these guys simply always give a very high quality show, in every aspect: a good sound, ultra tight riffing, an active stage performance and a very high dose of headbang moments. Especially today I was aware what a great singer Eric Kalsbeek has become over the past years, you can obviously see that he has quite some experience now. He is a 100% dedicated on stage and while he can scream his lungs out, just a few seconds later he very accurately hits every single clean note. A downside of the show of tonight could be the predictable setlist, once again they opened with ‘Drive’ and ‘Swandive’ was played early in the set, but this is a known fact with bands which tour a lot. There actually was one very welcome surprise, and that was the new song ‘Sunburn’! It absolutely blew me away with an amazing razor-sharp riff in, as always, a complicated and stunning rhythm. Just as we are used of Textures, but there also were some clear Soulfly/Sepultura (Max-era) influences! That was something we didn’t see coming and at first one would obviously say that these styles won’t go together, but Textures did it, amazing! Textures became a synonym for quality and once again my neck could still feel several days later that it underwent the strong powers of Textures. (Sledgehammer Messiah)
